Teams

Eighteen teams of college and university students will compete in the Solar Decathlon. The students and their amazing work will take center stage on the National Mall in the nation's capital. Teams begin assembly of their "solar village" on the Mall on September 29, 2005. The event is open to the public October 7-16. The teams' houses are open for touring everyday except October 12, when they will close for competition purposes. An overall winner will be announced at 2pm on October 14.

Teams are made up of students pursuing degrees in engineering, architecture, computer science, public relations, marketing, and other disciplines. Just like the Olympic decathletes, they will need to draw on all of their strengths and skills to troubleshoot, communicate, dream, and build these original solar homes. So, having a well-balanced team—rather than a team with just one or two stars—is an asset.

While the teams are in heated competition, they also borrow equipment, compare notes, and learn from each other. Some teams will draw on the experience of their predecessors who competed in Solar Decathlon 2002, the inaugural event.

Following is a list of the 18 teams for the 2005 Solar Decathlon. If you would like to contact a team, use the contact information provided. Links to more information about each are also provided.
