Doe to Host State-of-the-Art Green Solar Village on the National Mall, October 12-20
On-Site Workshops Introduce Builders to Energy Efficient, Green Building Technologies
September 11, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC — As part of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) 3rd Solar Decathlon, which will be held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, this October, DOE will feature a special Building Industry Day on Thursday, October 18. The Solar Decathlon consists of twenty university-led teams from the U.S. and around the world who will compete to build solar-powered, high-efficiency homes. Student competitors in the 2007 Solar Decathlon have designed homes that are fully powered by the sun; and from October 12-20, they will put those designs to the test.
Building Day will give building professionals insight into innovative "green" technologies and cutting-edge, energy efficient building practices that are incorporated into the Solar Decathlon homes. In addition to the opportunity to tour the "solar village," a series of free workshops will be offered throughout the day, highlighting building technologies and techniques.
